Le Masque Parfait (18+)
A Dark Psychological Horror. (CW: Graphic violence, medical horror, and mature themes. 18+)
“The only way to stop the fiend is either to capture it or to kill it.
But who wins remains uncertain,
as the hunters chase the deer rather than the wolf.”
— Pendant la chasse (Epigraph – Le Masque Parfait) Mari Montclair
Le Masque Parfait is a psychological horror narrated by Lucian Hoffmann, a thirty-three-year-old surgeon who believes himself incapable of cruelty.
After inheriting the Hoffmann-Klein Manor, Lucian becomes obsessed with Rose Fontaine, a bookstore clerk on Rue de Rivoli. Watching her with the patience of a birdwatcher, he catalogs her habits, studies her movements, and curates her life from afar.
What begins as a meticulously orchestrated meeting over a shared love of books soon evolves into something far darker. Hidden behind a mask of charm and sophistication, Lucian slowly draws Rose into his life. As his fixation deepens, violence becomes inseparable from beauty, and control becomes indistinguishable from devotion.
The story explores obsession, self-deception, and the anesthetization of violence through art, all through the eyes of a narrator who transforms every act of cruelty into something he believes is beautiful.
